Amazon Breakthrough Awards – A Breakthrough

breakthrough logoAmazon does this thing every year where they run a search for the top breakthrough self published novels.  Fittingly called the Amazon Breakthrough Awards.

So I did this thing where I entered White Balance.

And they did this thing where they pushed it through from the pitch round where there are 10,000 entries to the second round, where actual manuscripts get read.

That 10,000 became 2,000 and there are 415 second rounders in the Romance category with White Balance.

That 2000 becomes 500 in April and so on till there are category winners.

I’m bloody happy to get this far because lets hazard a guess that as the biggest genre, romance had proportionally more entries than general fiction, mystery and thriller, young adult or fantasy sci-fi and horror.  Note that last category is all bundled as one.

I don’t know this but it’s a decent guess and I’m sticking with it in the absence of any evidence to the contrary.

So yeah – chuffed.

Can’t imagine the journey will continue to the quarter finals and don’t need it to.  This is a good place to be.

  • Good for you!!! White Balance is the first book I read of yours – and the first time I wrote an author to cry about what the torture put upon the characters. I remember you encouraged me to keep going and I did and I’m soooo glad. It’s a great, great book.

    • Sorry about the torture! I’ll go back to writing romcoms one day I promise.

  • I have White Balance, so now i really need to get on with reading it! Super excited for you and can’t think of someone who deserves it more.

    • Ah – you’ve read enough of my stuff – but thank you

  • Wow this is great…why stop here, let’s cross fingers that it goes further…good luck! (Suzanne)
